One of my very favorite parts of a family session is asking mom & dad if they'd like some photos together... just them. Nine times out of ten, they'll sheepishly look at each other and one will start to quietly nod before the other joins in with a shrug and "Why not?!"

Sometimes, it takes a few minutes to get comfortable and remember how to pose without a baby on one hip and a toddler clinging to their leg. Sometimes, taking a quick "stroll" down the cobblestone and stopping for a quick embrace comes naturally as they revel in their time together...maybe the first stolen minutes "alone" in weeks.

Before long, they're both grinning and reminiscing on having their engagement photos done or special moments from their wedding day. And, for those few minutes free from cajoling grins from their kids and wiping tears and noses, their smiles are different. They are transported back to a time before school drop-offs and messy, loud dinners, and juggling five different schedules. For those quiet moments, they are "us" again.

My wish for you and your significant other this Valentine's Day is this...whether you're dating, newlyweds, or about to celebrate your 50th anniversary, don't forget photos with your significant other to commemorate your years together. If it's a professionally done print or a quick selfie in the driveway...take the photo. One day your camera roll will of course still be filled with toothless baby smiles and dinners with friends and family holidays...but sprinkled throughout your snapshots of life as mom & dad, you'll also find snapshots equally as important...those of your life as "Just Us."

Featured below are just a few of my favorites of "Just Us" from recent family sessions! 💕💕💕
